Radha and the nine other stories of this collection are urban fables of a third world city. The characters are normal human beings but in many cases they have to stoop low just to survive. These ten stories emanate from the dark alleys of the city, the characters veer like predators - they challenge the superficial sophistication. Are they sub-alterns? To an extent yes. But more importantly, they live and they exist. They are radical in their quest of life which they hope to conquer. The reading of the stories may be morbid, at times black yet the author hopes to reflect a slice of life which is not so known to the western audience. This collection is a homage to them - who hope in despair and triumph.
India is a land of diverse cultures and languages. So is her cinema. There are various genres within the Indian cinema which demands a closer look. This book tries to focus on three such genres and reviews ten films falling under each of them. It hopes to act as a precursor for you to rake up materials on Indian films that venture out of the mainstream commercial films and yet reflect everything of this profound country.
